English As A Second Language

Our ENL Program

Our ENL program is dedicated to building student fluency and confidence in the English language by enhancing skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The curriculum is structured to provide students with practical and effective strategies for academic success. Key instructional methods include the "3 Reads protocol" to identify main ideas and the "S.C.U.B.A." annotating strategy to promote critical engagement with texts. Students will explore a variety of materials, including informational texts like news articles and literary works such as the memoir Enchanted Air , while developing their ability to analyze central ideas, write objective summaries, and structure coherent arguments.

In addition to this focused English language development, our program supports students in their broader academic journey, which includes the study of world languages. The "Introduction to Spanish Language" course, for example, is offered as part of this framework. This 9th-grade class is designed to build a strong foundation in Spanish, starting with essential vocabulary for greetings, colors, family, and time. Students will learn the basics of verb conjugation and be introduced to the cultural practices of Spanish-speaking countries, ensuring a well-rounded and supportive language-learning environment.
